Prejudice Is Dumb

As a society we know that racial prejudice is dumb.
Now intriguing early research shows that harboring such prejudices may actually make people dumber -- at least temporarily.

The implication, says researcher Jennifer A. Richeson, PhD, is that people with biased attitudes toward other races exert a type of "cognitive control" to conceal their thoughts during interracial interactions in an attempt to behave in a nonprejudice way. As a result, they are less able to perform to the best of their mental capacity.
